The Hoyt Running Chair is a custom-built, high‑performance adaptive racing wheelchair inspired by the legendary duo Dick and Rick Hoyt, who proved to the world that disability does not diminish purpose, strength, or joy. Built by Southbridge Tool & Manufacturing, this chair allows individuals with physical disabilities to experience road races, marathons, and even triathlons by safely partnering with a push runner.
For FCA All Ability Sports, this chair is more than equipment, it’s access. Our weekly run‑walk huddles bring together athletes with and without disabilities, creating a unified team where guides support athletes who need assistance. But to fully live out our mission of inclusion, we must also make space for athletes who are wheelchair‑bound.
The Hoyt Running Chair opens that door. It’s safe, versatile, and not limited to one athlete, allowing multiple participants to experience the thrill of racing throughout the year. Our dream is to secure two chairs so our athletes can race side‑by‑side, together with their teammates, as they race to the finish. The current cost of a basic Hoyt Chair is approximately $6,000.
I had the privilege of sharing the course Dick and Rick Hoyt and heard the crowds erupt with cheers each time they passed by. Their story inspired thousands to see the God‑given worth in every person. That same spirit drives FCA All Ability Sports. We want our athletes to be seen, celebrated, and cheered on as they race through Brevard County — showing our community that disability does not define limits, and every athlete carries the heart of a champion.
